How to choose lip oil

When choosing a lip oil, it is important to consider not only its characteristics and expert reviews. The best lip oil should also suit your personal expectations from the product and even your lifestyle, since even the packaging can affect the ease of use, and therefore the rating of the oil in your own eyes.

How to choose lip oil

1. Consider how you will use the product

If you’re going to use it as a top coat, the best lip oil should have a glossy finish, which moisturizing or gloss oils typically have. If you expect care from the oil first of all and see it as a replacement for hygienic lipstick, a balm oil is also suitable, which will provide a delicate shine, but at the same time provide intensive care and protection against dryness.

2. Choose where you will use the product

If you spend most of your time driving or cannot leave work for a long time, a roll-on product is suitable for you, which can be applied quickly and evenly without a mirror. However, some convenient ergonomic applicators provide the same opportunity.

But there are also those who scoop up too much oil from the tube, and the excess goes beyond the contour of the lips when applied, which means you will need a mirror and water to correct the gloss, and then wash your hands. Products in round jars without an applicator are only good for home use, because applying it in public transport with dirty hands means risking an infection such as herpes.

3. Carefully study the composition of the oil

The reaction may include swelling, redness and burning of the red border of the lips, and rashes around the mouth. If you think that an allergy is possible, choose a product marked “hypoallergenic” or with a minimum set of oils in the composition. If the store has a tester, you can apply the product to your wrist and observe your skin for half an hour.

4. Consider individual reactions to odors

This is not so much about allergies as it is about individual intolerance to fragrances. Considering the maximum proximity of the oil on the lips to the receptors of the nose, you will feel the bright aroma for at least several hours before the product is absorbed into the skin. If this irritates you, choose a product without fragrances or with an unobtrusive, pleasant personal aroma.

5. Estimate the volume of the package

Only some products have restrictions on use up to 3-4 times a day. But usually the instructions indicate use as needed. If your lips often dry out or you generally love the feeling of cosmetics on your lips, choose a bottle with a volume of at least 7 ml.

Review of a cosmetologist about lip oils

According to Yulia Bashilova, a cosmetologist at the Paracelsus Clinic, lips are one of the brightest and sexiest features of the face, so they should be moisturized, nourished and toned. Products for their care should be soft enough and have moisturizing and nourishing effects. You can use light scrubs if peeling suddenly occurs.

A cosmetologist advises choosing a lip oil base depending on the time of year and skin condition. “In summer, give preference to lighter and moisturizing textures, in winter – denser ones, so that they perform nourishing and protective functions,” advises Yulia. Such “winter” products may include shea butter and jojoba oil. But coconut oil, on the contrary, can dry out the skin, so it is least recommended for lip care in winter.

“If you are choosing an oil for the summer, pay attention to products with menthol. It has a cooling effect and increases blood flow to the lips, due to which they become plump, voluminous, and a beautiful push-up effect occurs,” says Yulia Bashilova.

Review of the best lip oils

Clarins Lip Comfort Oil

It has a sweet berry aroma, impressive packaging and gives the lips a beautiful volume. But it is quickly consumed and has a high cost

Elian Russia Elixir Lip Oil

Minimal consumption and non-sticky texture with an unobtrusive odor. But it may leak out, and the applicator may break due to excessive softness.

Lip gloss oil Glow Me Cristal Pink

Pleasant tactile packaging and good healing ability. But the color on the lips is much paler than in the package, and the applicator is large and uneconomical

Long-lasting lip tint oil Lavelle Collection Oh My Tint

The oil has a beautiful rich color with the effect of blur and liquid glass, but you have to “pay for it” with stickiness and a not very pleasant fragrance

Vivienne Sabo Syrup de Fruits Lip Oil

It moisturizes well, smells delicious and doesn’t stick your lips together. But the bottle may leak, and due to the small volume it runs out quickly

Luxvisage Beauty elixir lip oil

Moisturizes lips better than hygienic lipstick and gives them a beautiful shine. But at the same time it lasts only 3 hours and has a tight applicator, due to which it may leak when opened.

Libriderm Vitamin Care Lip Oil

It treats jams well and moisturizes, but may be inconvenient to use due to the poorly rotating ball.

Mixit Lip Care Oil Flavor of Love

The non-sticky and moisturizing texture allows it to be worn under lipstick. But it has a specific smell and, if used as a stand-alone product, the gloss may quickly disappear

Divage Dewy Lip Oil with Vanilla Scent

The oil has several “delicious” aromas and a non-sticky and moisturizing texture. But when used, the aroma can become sour, and the oil can leak and leave streaks in the cosmetic bag.

Eveline Rich Lip Oil Mango

Gives a beautiful shine and has a pleasant aroma. But for very dry skin of the lips it may seem weak, and with frequent use the lid may break.
