How to choose the best lip filler product

Decorative lip products with fillers for augmentation should not only add volume, but also be comfortable to use. This may depend on various factors.

1. Desired effect

Hyaluronic lip products with fillers can provide three effects at the same time (volume, smoothing or moisturizing), since the acid contained in their base attracts water into the skin and thereby makes them fuller, and therefore larger and smoother.

But there are filler creams that perfectly fill the unevenness on the skin of the lips and create the effect of smooth, even and well-groomed skin, but at the same time they practically do not provide volume. And voluminous glosses often provide only a visual increase, but at the same time, due to the fact that they are quickly absorbed into the skin, they can tighten it and hide the natural volume.

2. Nature of application

Cream filler will be a good base for makeup, while smoothing and nourishing the lips. But at the same time it is not suitable as a top, since it practically does not shine. A plumper or maximizer will do this task well – at their core, these are lip glosses that add volume. But as befits this type of decorative cosmetics, they have a glossy, radiant or dewy finish. But if your lips are dry and you want to solve the problems of dryness and sticking in the corners along with the problem of volume, then it is better, of course, to give preference to creams or balms.

3. Skin sensitivity

Chili pepper, ginger, menthol and peptides, which are most often used to stimulate blood circulation, can have an individual reaction on the skin, especially on sensitive skin. It usually manifests itself as a burning sensation, redness, swelling and itching and differs from the standard tingling sensation for mile ginger pepper in its greatest severity and duration.

If such a reaction occurs, the product should be promptly washed off and, ideally, not used again. Or try the next day or a couple of days later, since on different days of the cycle the sensitivity of the skin may vary both more and less.

4. Color

Filler creams and makeup bases generally do not have a tint and can only impart a light translucent gloss. At the same time, all types of glosses, as a rule, are presented in several shades and are essentially a 2 in 1 product – both a care filler and a regular lip gloss. By the way, many colored glosses can be combined with bright lipstick, creating a fashionable ombre lip makeup – when the lipstick acts as a base, and a darker gloss is applied to the middle of the lips and “blotted” to create a light blurry effect.

5. Injections

Hyaluronic acid injections are not considered an obstacle to the use of decorative cosmetics. But if you just recently had “beauty injections”, using cosmetics with a thermal effect can lengthen the rehabilitation period, increasing irritation at the puncture sites.

And in general, after the injection of fillers or, for example, botulinum toxin, it is recommended to limit thermal exposure for at least 3-5 days. Of course, the temperature regime of a plumper or maximizer is not comparable to a sauna or bathhouse, but it can intensify the unpleasant sensations that arise. The greatest comfort will be provided by balms, lip oils and hygienic lipsticks with soothing ingredients – chamomile extract, aloe vera, panthenol, almond or peach oil. In addition to everything else, they provide good hydration and softening.

A cosmetologist’s review of lip products with fillers

Despite the fact that most manufacturers of decorative lip cosmetics with fillers promise a noticeable effect, it will still differ from the cosmetic method of introducing hyaluronic acid. “All decorative cosmetics act externally, and this also applies to lip glosses, which promise to increase size. They can really do this, but for a short period of time and until the red border of the lips gets used to them,” says Yulia Gallyamova, a dermatologist, member of the European Academy of Dermatovenereology.

The doctor explains that such products work, firstly, due to shine, which gives the lips visual volume, and secondly, due to intense hydration, when the upper layer of the red border of the lips is nourished and smoothed. Creams work on the same principle, when wrinkles become more filled in and the volume visually increases. And the third is the irritant effect, which, as a rule, gives ginger and capsaicin extract from hot peppers.

“Due to the tingling, blood flows and a slight swelling forms, which causes the lips to enlarge. As long as there is this irritation, and the lips feel this tingling, they will also be full. But the skin gets used to any irritation, including the red border of the lips, and subsequently, if you use these products constantly, it simply will not react to them,” explains Yulia Gallyamova.

The doctor added that in general these drugs are harmless, but individual intolerance may occur. You should not use them if there is severe swelling and a rather unpleasant tingling sensation that does not go away and bothers you. Because there may be contact allergic dermatitis, which will only increase.
